Screen Shot 2015-11-04 at 3.09.18 PMBreast cancer is something to talk about, a fact that becomes obvious when you know some important statistics. For instance, during the year 2015, experts estimate that there will be 231,840 new cases of invasive breast cancer diagnosed among women in the U.S. When it comes to deaths caused by cancer, breast cancer is second only to lung cancer. This year alone, 40,290 women are expected to die from breast cancer! Those are three reasons to care about breast cancer, and the following are three reasons to join the Teens 4 Pink Ambassador Program, which is an organization that equips teens to raise awareness about cancer in the African American community.

Reason 1 – What Teens 4 Pink is About

The Teens 4 Pink (T4P) organization is part of Sisters Network Inc. Both are national interactive, multi-level initiatives. Teens 4 Pink is for teen girls between the ages of 12 and 16. The program equips girls to understand the importance of breast health and to become health leaders and ambassadors for the women within their communities and families. Presentations focus on overall awareness of breast cancer, the importance of mammograms, breast self-exams, and encouraging women to take responsibility for their health.

Reason 2 – The Purpose of Teens 4 Pink

Teens involved with Teens 4 Pink have a part in addressing a startling statistic within the African American community. Women of color are more likely to die from breast cancer than Caucasian women, and they are also less likely to survive beyond 5 years, after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Teens are empowered to share with their families and communities for the purpose of saving lives.

Reason 3 – Teens 4 Pink Ambassadors Truly Make A Difference

Joining Teens 4 Pink provides access to educational and testing materials that qualifies teen girls to become Pink Ambassadors. Ambassadors are recognized in a special ceremony, and they receive a gift for their participation in the important program. From there they have the opportunity to take part in community events and to truly become agents of change!
